piboidmo2013-participant-214x131

Thank goodness for creative and over-all extraordinary minds like children’s book author Tara Lazar!

Founder of PiBoIdMo–Picture Book Idea Month, for the unfamiliar–Tara came up with a brilliant idea back in 2008 to start a writing competition similar to the novelist-oriented NaNoWriMo, but geared it specifically towards aspiring children’s picture book author’s instead! The challenge of PiBoIdMo is to come up with 30 picture book ideas in 30 days. That’s right–one idea a day! What a fun-tastic way to test the waters of your imagination and hone your “picture-book-generating-senses!”

Well, it’s 2013 now, and after 5 years of success and increasing participation, PiBoIdMo is preparing for it’s launch again in early November! YES!!!

You might be wondering: What makes this year so special that I would spend my time enthusiastically typing up a pre PiBoIdMo blog post? Besides the big 5 year anniversary recently celebrated by PiBoIdMo-er’s everywhere, this will be my very first time participating in the competition. Ever.

Being what I like to call an itty bitty amateur children’s book writer, this is kind of a big deal for me. I’m always up for a challenge, especially when there is a potential for immense self-improvement as a writer, and I can’t imagine a better discipline to engage myself in right now (in the middle of my very first manuscript) than committing to create 30 brand-spanking-new picture book ideas in ONE month. Excellent!

So to my fellow children’s book writers out there–I would highly encourage you to participate in PiBoIdMo this year! From what I hear, it’s quite a rewarding experience. If you would like more information on the competition, follow my link above to Tara Lazar’s official website and dig in!

Stay creative!
